NOTES: Southwest of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico, the South Padre Island is popular for snorkeling. Although the water visibility is usually not great, there are two popular sites for snorkeling on South Padre; around South Padre jetties or in Laguna Madre Estuary. More experienced snorkelers at South Padre Island may enjoy the Iron Reef Little Sara, which is 9 miles offshore.
When snorkeling around South Padre Island, you may encounter stingrays, eels, wrasse, triggerfish, trumpetfish and some sharks.
